Microstructural characteristics and seasonal growth patterns observed in Metoposaurus krasiejowensis teeth

The tooth microstructure of Metoposaurus krasiejowensis was studied to observe external morphology, internal (comprising dentine structure and directional porosity as possible predatory adaptations) enamel/enameloid mineral composition. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation thin-section inspection by light microscope enabled us recognize a in the cross-sections, interpreted here part labyrinthodont displayed temnospondyls related groups. This network canals is highly complicated reveals three-dimensional structure. teeth present different cross-sections based on distance from tip, with wide, circular, reinforced base lateral compressed, cuspidal section cutting edge. Interestingly, observed M. exhibit peculiar variation temnospondyl teeth, convoluted canal-like seems be irregular appears upper while bases show regular pulpal cavity circled pores. Furthermore, bands incremental growth marks Andresen lines, characterized pronounced colour variation, were strong implications for seasonal patterns dentine. Additionally, significant proportion (1.43–2.73%) fluoride component enamel scanning microscopy–energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM–EDS) point mapping analyses, suggesting fluorapatite mineralogy enamel.
